About
Queer Between the Covers : Saturday, August 17th 2013
Since the closing of L’Androgyne in 2002, Montreal has not maintained a long-standing queer bookstore. Queer Between the Covers aims to provide access to queer materials that are otherwise unavailable in the city, as well as draw attention to the role of queer bookstores in providing community space and supporting queer cultural production. This is the sixth year that Queer Between the Covers will be taking place in Montreal. It happens each August, as part of an alternative Pride series called Pervers/cité, which is a radical response to the continued commercialization and de-politicization of mainstream pride events in the city. The bookfair began as an initiative of Qteam, a radical queer collective in the city, and is now an autonomous project. The bookfair attracts hundreds of people each year, and brings together both local and out-of-town independent bookstores, publishers, zinesters, authors, and community groups.
Check out Table Reservations to find out how to secure your spot at this year’s bookfair! The registration deadline is June 1, 2013.
Queer Between the Covers is being organized by a collective of volunteers based in Montreal, with the support of QPIRG Concordia. The collective also maintains a year-round queer and trans book and zine distro and puts on book launches and other smaller events every few months. We are always looking for new people to get involved.
